Description
Nearly half of the population in Afghanistan, 18 million people, are in need of humanitarian assistance. 14 million need food, 9 million need access to water, 600,000 have been internally displaced this year alone, and 5 million people have been displaced from previous years, said the UN Humanitarian Coordinator Martin Griffiths, following his visit to Kabul at the beginning of September.
Griffiths added that the humanitarian side of the UN assistance mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) will stay and the job is going to expand.
