Description

The objectives of the thematic session on SDG 11 are to:

  1.  Provide a platform for stakeholders to interact and contribute to the global and regional discussions of youth inclusion and leadership in recovery processes within urban settlements.  
  2. Exchange best practices, ideas, and novel solutions of young people and involve them in civic engagement and development programs within urban settlements.  
  3. Assure youth voices and allies from a diversity of backgrounds are heard and well represented.
  4. Explore the role of youth in progressing towards more resilient and sustainable cities, by fostering their creativity and sense of entrepreneurship.
  5. Develop key messages highlighting youth priorities and solutions for the implementation of SDG 11 in the context of recovery processes. 

The parallel thematic breakout sessions will review progress in the 4 SDGs and make recommendations for implementation at national, regional and global levels.

The 2023 Annual Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum, will take place over three days on 25-27 April 2023, guided by the theme of the 2023 HLPF on "Accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels". Youth will be given the opportunity to present their assessment, vision and recommendations for member states' consideration ahead of the SDG Summit in September 2023.
