On 24 December 2021, the General Assembly adopted resolution 76/233 establishing an Open-ended Working Group to elaborate a set of political commitments as a new global framework that will address existing gaps in through-life ammunition management.

The organizational session of the OEWG will take place on 7 and 8 February 2022 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. During the organizational session, the OEWG will be invited to elect its chair, to adopt its provisional agenda and programme of work of the first substantive session and to decide on its organization of work.
