Description
Join us on Wednesday, March 20th, for an inspiring discussion hosted by UNEP, with the generous support of the Governments of France and Kenya, along with partners from the IOC and IUCN. This gathering aims to lay the groundwork for future collaborations among sports and environment ministers, as well as member states, while harnessing the immense potential of sports to advance the commitments of the Global Biodiversity Framework. As we gear up for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the forthcoming African Cup of Nations in Kenya in 2027, this event will shine a spotlight on two sporting powerhouses: France and Kenya. We'll hear from esteemed Kenyan sports organizations – including the Kenya NOC and Kenya Athletics – as well as legendary athletes such as Tegla Loroupe, the groundbreaking long-distance runner and first African woman to conquer the NYC marathon, and Ferdinand Omanyala, the African 100m record holder. Join us as we explore the role sports can play as dynamic and sustainable allies for nature and climate action.
