Summary
Twenty-five years ago the nations of the world came together to put to an end to nuclear testing, and the devastating weapons it creates, by negotiating the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). Before the CTBT, more than 2000 nuclear tests were conducted in locations around the world. In the 25 years since the Treaty opened for signature, fewer than 12 nuclear tests have been conducted. t creates, by negotiating the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).
Description

This high-level meeting is the tenth Meeting of the Friends of the CTBT, an event that occurs biennially on a rotational basis between Vienna and New York, and is coordinated by the Foreign Ministers of Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany, Japan, and the Netherlands. This year's event is co-chaired by Japan and Australia. 

The goal of the meeting is to sustain and enhance political momentum and public support for the CTBT's entry into force. This year's event will commemorate the achievements of the CTBT and mark the close of the Treaty's 25th anniversary year, as well as assess the way forward to ensure that future generations never know the devastation of nuclear testing.
