Forty years of war, recurrent natural disasters, chronic poverty, drought and the COVID-19 pandemic have left more than 24 million people in Afghanistan in need of humanitarian assistance.
OCHA's work in Afghanistan focuses on assisting the most vulnerable by coordinating the delivery of effective humanitarian aid and principled humanitarian action. Recent developments and political upheaval have exacerbated needs and further complicated an extremely challenging operational context.
