Description

Maria "Mãezinha" Sábado de Horta Fidalgo lives in the village of Rincão and has been working as an artisanal fisherwoman since she left high school. President of the Rincão fishmongers' association, she is a strong and mobilizing leader. As fish stocks off the Cabo Verde coast continue to dwindle, Maria empowers her community to overcome their challenges.

Up the coast in Ribeira da Barca, a local co-operative helps to supplement school cafeterias with fish, to improve the children's concentration and performance.

The UN's Joint SDG Fund plays a crucial role in supporting Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to address these issues by providing funding to actionable proposals.

The Connecting Blue Economy Actors programme is an initiative of the Joint SDG Fund, led by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in collaboration with the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP).
