Description
This session will be structured around a 65-minute panel discussion featuring high-level stakeholders sharing experiences and lessons learned. It will also include a 10-minute segment for the launch of the UN AI Resource Hub: Capacity Building and Fellowship Activities with time reserved for audience interventions from the floor.

Artificial intelligence (AI) governance is being shaped through a growing ecosystem of national, regional, international, industry-led, scientific, technical and multistakeholder initiatives and approaches. In recent years, frameworks, institutions, standards, principles, and cooperation mechanisms and practical tools have been put forward, including by the UN system, to address both the opportunities and challenges presented by AI systems. These efforts reflect diverse mandates, priorities, institutional approaches, levels of development, and governance traditions, while contributing valuable experience and practical insights to the evolving global AI governance landscape. As discussions on international AI governance evolve, there is increasing value in understanding how existing initiatives and processes relate to one another, what lessons have emerged from their implementation, and where opportunities exist for greater complementarity, mutual learning and cooperation. This session seeks to highlight practical experiences and approaches that may contribute to greater coherence and collaboration across the wider AI governance ecosystem, situating the Global Dialogue on AI Governance within the broader landscape of ongoing efforts while identifying opportunities to strengthen mutual understanding, identify practical lessons and explore possible connections across different mandates, approaches and institutional settings. It will also offer a platform to highlight new announcements, cooperative efforts, and partnership opportunities that may contribute to a more inclusive, effective, and globally connected AI governance landscape.
Session Guiding Questions 1. What practical experiences and lessons have emerged from the existing AI governance initiatives, processes and approaches, and how have they contributed to the evolving global AI landscape? 2. What areas of convergence, complementary or mutual learning, institutional models, and cooperation mechanisms can be identified across different national, regional, international and multistakeholder efforts, while respecting their distinct mandates, approaches and institutional settings? 3. How can the AI Dialogue help situate these initiatives and approaches within a broader landscape, support mutual understanding and avoid duplication, while encouraging practical connections and areas for international cooperation?
