Description

The President of the General Assembly, Csaba Kőrösi, is wrapping up his official engagements at the Seventh Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, co-hosted by the Government of Hungary and the World Health Organization.

He had a number of bilaterals in the past 24-hours, including with Dr. Hans Kluge, the WHO Regional Director for Europe.

They discussed preparations for the upcoming high-level events in the General Assembly related to pandemic prevention, preparedness and response; universal health coverage; and the fight against tuberculosis.

The President will be back in the office on Monday.

Turning back here at the UN Headquarters, where there is a commemoration of Kiswahili Language Day.

President Kőrösi spoke about the importance of Kiswahili being used online, to help turbocharge progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.

And he said that he hoped today's event will lead to some concrete next steps to further Kiswahili's reach on sustainable issues.

The remarks were delivered by the Chef de Cabinet, Mr. László Szőke.

The event was organized by the Permanent Mission of Tanzania, UNESCO, as well as Member States of the Southern African Development Community and the East African Community.

Looking to next week.

Wednesday is also the first time that we mark the International Day of Combatting Sand and Dust Storms, which the General Assembly created just a few weeks ago.

On Thursday, 13 July, President Kőrösi will speak about gender financial architecture at a side event of HLPF. So women as users, providers and regulators of financial services, and how this corresponds with sustainability.

One more note on next week, I am away from the office. My colleagues will be stepping in. Be on the lookout for speeches and other emails from Alissa Collins, Iseult McNulty, Katherine Stephan, or Steven Philip.
