Press Conference: World Wildlife Fund: What options remain to unblock the deadlock on finance at COP16? – United Nations Biodiversity Conference 2024
As week two of negotiations gets underway, WWF experts will look at what needs to be achieved over the coming days for a successful conclusion to COP16 in Cali. The speakers will examine the must-haves and crunch points ahead of the arrival of ministers and heads of state for the High Level Segment.
Taking place on Finance and Biodiversity Day, the briefing will consider how confidence and trust can be built between countries over the coming days, in order to unblock the deadlock on finance and deliver the resource mobilization needs for biodiversity finance by 2030; aligning financial flows to the Global Biodiversity Framework; and the accelerated actions needed to identify harmful subsidies to nature by 2025. With the COP29 climate change conference on the horizon, they will also explore the interlinkages between climate and nature finance, and the importance of a new finance goal to be agreed in Baku.
