Virtual launch of the UNFPA 2025 Humanitarian Action Overview
In 2024, a staggering 122.6 million people were displaced by conflict, natural disasters, and other crises. Women and girls account for roughly half of those displaced, and in some situations, they constitute the overwhelming majority. For them, the realities of pregnancy, childbirth, and the urgent need for protection from gender-based violence persist, even amid wars, earthquakes, and climate-driven disasters.
At the core of UNFPA's mission lies an unwavering belief: no woman should lose her life while giving life, and no woman or girl should endure violence or exploitation. Even in the most severe crises, where health and protection systems collapse, UNFPA remains resolute in its commitment to delivering quality, life-saving support to women and girls when they need it most.
On December 5, 2024, UNFPA will launch its 2025 Humanitarian Action Overview (HAO), an annual report that highlights the organization's critical work in crisis settings. The report provides an in-depth look at UNFPA's humanitarian efforts, focusing on the irreplaceable role of sexual and reproductive health services and gender-based violence prevention programmes. It also examines global trends affecting women and girls in emergencies, outlines UNFPA's financial and operational needs, and showcases the measurable impact of its initiatives.
The virtual launch event, scheduled from 15:30 to 16:30 CET (9:30 to 10:30 a.m. EST), will begin with opening remarks from UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem. It will feature insights from leaders in the public and private sectors as well as representatives from organizations actively working in humanitarian contexts.
This event will serve as a platform to unveil UNFPA's 2025 global humanitarian appeal, celebrate key achievements from 2024, and explore emerging trends impacting women and girls in crisis situations. It will also outline UNFPA's priorities for the year ahead and encourage dialogue through a Q&A session, offering partners an opportunity to engage directly with UNFPA leadership and help shape the way forward.
