Objectives

The event aims to raise awareness and foster dialogue on the broader issue of violent extremism within gaming platforms. It will bring together experts, policymakers, gaming industry leaders, civil society, and law enforcement to explore the challenges and opportunities for safeguarding these digital environments.

Through panel discussions and interactive sessions, the event will emphasize the need for cross-sector collaboration and innovative strategies to counter extremist exploitation of gaming spaces. Additionally, the event will announce the launch of a new research initiative lead by UNICRI and UNOCT that will delve into these issues, offering insights and recommendations to enhance digital safety and resilience against violent extremism. This study will focus on Africa, due to its rapidly growing mobile gaming market and young population, which create unique opportunities and challenges for violent extremist exploitation of gaming platforms. It is expected that this will additionally lay the foundation for the development of future evidence based programming to be jointly lead by UNICRI and UNOCT.
