Within this side event to the 2023 STI Forum, organised by the German Federal Foreign Office together with the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), a diverse group of panellists reflecting the multi-stakeholder community will discuss and investigate how digital technologies within the context of the Global Digital Compact (GDC) can concretely forward sustainable development.

The session organisers will contextualize and cross-reference the GDC objectives and consultation results with science and innovation related SDGs. Thereby the focus will lie on a handful of key SDGs (e.g., SDG4, SDG7, SDG9, SDG17) in line with the central themes of the GDC: digital connectivity, avoiding Internet fragmentation, providing people with options as to how their data is used, application of human rights online, and promoting a trustworthy Internet.
The goal for the side-event will thereby not only be to present and discuss thematic insights but explore what and how digital technologies within the context of the GDC can concretely contribute to achieving the 2030 SDGs
