Strengthening the socio-economic resilience of women and young people to prevent violent extremism (CSW68 Side Event)
The inclusive and sustainable nature of development calls for the full involvement of women, who constitute more than half of humanity. In recent years, humanity has been facing a worrying rise in crime and violent extremism. This situation is a threat to peace and security, to human rights and sustainable development.
This phenomenon not only accentuates the climate of fear and insecurity, but also affects the efforts of those in power to guarantee security to populations and allow them to freely go about their activities.
For an effective fight against this violent extremism, it is essential to address its root causes, notably the socio-economic inequalities and vulnerabilities faced by populations, particularly women and young people. Women's economic empowerment is seen as one of the ideal paths to achieving gender equality and eradicating poverty.
The general objective of this event, which will take place in the form of a round table, is to share Togo's experiences in empowering women and youth, countering violent extremism and strengthening partnerships. It will be also an occasion to learn about the experiences of other countries to improve strategies and encourage new partnerships to scale up programs and projects relating to strengthening the resilience of women and young people in the face of violent extremism.
