Testimony of a Genocide Survivor from Rwanda

At just nine years old, Ms. Germaine Tuyisenge Müller was left to survive on her own for two months during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda after the very neighbours her mother had entrusted with her safety abandoned her.

She shared her harrowing testimony during the Commemoration of the 31st anniversary of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda held at the United Nations Headquarters on 7 April, 2025.

Ms. Tuyisenge Müller holds a PhD in health geography and works in the field of global health.
