The upcoming UN side event will focus on the implementation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Convention on Countering Extremism. This convention, adopted by China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Russia in 2017, is the first international legal instrument dedicated to cooperation among participating states in combating extremism.

The Republic of Kenya and the Kyrgyz Republic are two examples of Member States that have developed national strategies and have acquired significant experiences in their implementation in their respective contexts.
