Mona Juul (ECOSOC President) at joint briefing by the Presidents of the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council
28 Jan 2020 -  The joint Presidents’ briefing will outline efforts to facilitate coherence in the work of the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council, pursuant to the General Assembly resolution 72/313, entitled “Revitalization of the work of the General Assembly”, in particular paragraphs 29, 30 and 31 related to the need to enhance synergies and coherence and reduce overlap where it is found to exist in the agendas of the General Assembly, the Economic and Social Council and their subsidiary bodies, as well as the highlevel political forum and other related fora in light of the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The structure of the briefing will include updates on the following: (i) cooperation and coherence between the General Assembly and ECOSOC, as well as the alignment process; (ii) Financing for Development; (iii) Youth; and (iv) Least Developed Countries. Additionally, it will provide an opportunity for delegations to exchange views and perspectives in relation to the possible gaps and duplication in the work programmes of these two United Nations organs.
