Video Message by Volkan Bozkir, President of the 75th session of the General Assembly to mark the International Year of Peace and Trust
29 Jan 2021 -  Ladies and Gentlemen, Welcome to this special event, to mark the International Year of Peace and Trust.
I would like to thank the Government of Turkmenistan, for hosting this event today, and for presenting the text, that established this International Year.
The resolution was adopted unanimously by Member States, demonstrating the international community’s commitment to peace.
It calls upon the international community, to continue to promote peace and trust among nations, as a value, that promotes sustainable development, peace and security, and human rights.
Prioritizing the meaningful inclusion, and public participation of all groups, including women and girls, youth, and local communities, is vital to our peace and development efforts.
The International Year, constitutes a means of mobilizing international efforts, to promote peace and trust among nations, on the basis of political dialogue, mutual understanding, and cooperation, in order to build sustainable peace, solidarity and harmony.
While observing the International Year of Peace and Trust, I would like to reiterate the Secretary-General’s call, for a global ceasefire by all Member States.
In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for peace and trust, is greater than ever.
Our most deadly enemy, is a virus.
It has killed over 2 million people, many more have lost their jobs, and been prevented from going to school.
As Member States have made clear, as we commemorated the 75th year of the United Nations, there is no other global organization, with the legitimacy, convening power and normative impact, as the United Nations.
No other global organization, gives hope to so many people, for a better world.
However, the United Nations is, only as strong as its members’ commitment to its ideals, and to each other.
I urge you all, in the spirit of the International Year of Peace and Trust, to put aside difference, and build on the relationships, that already exist.
This is the time, for solidarity and harmony, between nations.
We must work together, to overcome this devastating pandemic and its impacts, to provide vaccines for all, and ensure that no one is left behind.
No one is safe, until everyone is safe.
Thank you.
