UN-Habitat Briefing to Member States on United Nations Habitat Assembly
4 Apr 2019 -  Permanent and Observer Missions to the UN will participate in May 2019 in the first session of the United Nations Habitat Assembly of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat Assembly).
UN-Habitat Executive Director, Mme. Maimunah Mohd Sharif,  will provide an update on the progress of preparations of the 1st UN-Habitat Assembly and will be available for questions from the Delegates.
The UN-Habitat Assembly will begin with a ceremonial opening on Monday, 27 May 2019, followed by deliberations until Friday, 31 May 2019 at the United Nations complex in Nairobi, Kenya, home to UN-Habitat headquarters. The theme of the UN-Habitat Assembly is “Innovation for a better quality of life in cities and Communities”, with the sub theme: “Accelerated implementation of the New Urban Agenda towards achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals”.
It is expected that the UN-Habitat Assembly will make decisions and pass resolutions that will frame the global human settlements and urbanization agenda, review major trends, norms and standards related to human settlements and sustainable urbanization, and advise on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals and other global agendas.
