19.2% of all women and girls live with a disability. They are most likely to experience violence (70%), least likely to be literate (45%), and least likely to be employed (19.6%). Still, their voices are marginalized in national and international discussions on the CRPD and the SDGs. COVID 19 reinforces these inequalities.
Capacity is a precondition to participate meaningfully in implementation and monitoring of the CRPD and the SDGs, particularly in the context of COVID-19. There are multiple approaches to strengthen the capacities of women and girls with disabilities, such as strengthening organizations of women with disabilities, supporting international institutions to better include women and girls with disabilities or mentoring female SDG advocates.
In a panel interview format, this session will familiarise participants with concrete examples of such capacity-building. The event will be accessible, with simultaneous ISL translation and real-time CART services provided.
