H.E. Mr. Volkan Bozkir, President of 75th session of the General Assembly sends a message to mark World Malaria Day
24 Apr 2021 -  COVID-19 has understandably dominated our thoughts and actions this past year. At the same time, we must not ignore the other health threats we face.

For billions of people around the world, malaria was, and is, a daily and life-threatening concern.

Nearly half a million people die each year due to malaria.

In sub-Saharan Africa, malaria is one of the leading causes of death for children under five.

And yet, malaria is preventable and curable. There are proven strategies, tools, and treatments. We only need to apply the same focus, resolve, and resources to make sure we tackle this threat as thoroughly as we have COVID-19.

As we recover from the pandemic, and as we rebuild and strengthen our healthcare systems, let us make sure we equip our systems to handle any and all health threats.

Let us be the generation that draws the line on malaria, that truly ends this lingering and deadly disease.
