With some five million Haitians requiring food assistance, the United Nations is delivering aid despite insecurity caused by political turmoil, civil unrest and gang violence.

Now in its thirteenth year, the war in Syria shows no signs of letting up, and several foreign powers are active in the country, including Russia, the US, Turkey and Israel, which has stepped up its bombardments since the 7 October Hamas attacks.

The new United Nations Humanitarian Response Plan for Haiti aims to cover 3.6 million people in 2024. With nearly half of its population experiencing food insecurity, Haiti ranks among the countries most affected by a food crisis. The UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Haiti, Ulrika Richardson, urges action to fund the Plan while calling for attention to root causes of the severe protection crisis affecting millions of Haitians.
