The Side Event on the occasion of the U.N. International Law Week seeks to animate the underlying purposes detailed in the PCA Administrative Council Resolution dated 19 April 2023 and UNGA Resolution 77/322 dated 3 August 2023 by reinforcing the shared mission between the U.N. and the PCA towards the pacific settlement of disputes.

The purpose of the meeting is to facilitate exchanges of experiences, good practices and lessons learned regarding transitional justice, with a specific focus on guarantees of non-recurrence, among conflict-affected countries in different regions, in the spirit of South-South and triangular cooperation.

Following decades of conflict, over a span of twenty years since independence in 2002, Timor-Leste has undergone one of the most remarkable state-building and reconciliation processes in recent history. The country has owned its peacebuilding trajectory, shared its lessons and good practices, and openly discussed ways of addressing remaining challenges in the spirit of South-South and triangular cooperation (SS&TC).
