The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) warns more Sudanese refugees are expected in Chad, which already hosts more than a million people from neighbouring countries—while facing a chronic shortfall of funding for humanitarian aid.

South Sudan, one of the world's poorest countries, is dealing with the influx of hundreds of thousands of refugees from its northern neighbor, Sudan, which has been in the grip of a major conflict between the government and the Rapid Support Forces since April of last year. At the UN-run transit centers in Renk, staff are helping people to travel onwards to their final destinations in the hope of avoiding large numbers staying in this extremely remote, poorly resourced part of the country.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres visited a refugee camp in Iraq housing displaced persons repatriated from the Al-Hol camp in Syria, which he called "the worst in the world." The Secretary-General praised Iraq's repatriation efforts and called on all countries to act on this example and help the struggling refugees in Al-Hol.
