Follow-up to the UNPFII Recommendations: Towards a study on Media and Indigenous Peoples (UNPFII Side Event)

Media, including advertising, are part of our everyday life. With the rapid development of new technologies and the extensive use of communication tools and social media, new forms of media are increasingly present in the daily lives of children and young persons.

This session will explore the global trends and challenges that are shaping labor markets, with a focus on the gender gap in STEM fields and the opportunities to advance women’s representation and leadership in these domains.

Panel discussion on the role of digital, media and information literacy in the promotion and enjoyment of the right to freedom of opinion and expression

The United Nations Conscious Fashion and Lifestyle Network Annual Meeting, co-convened by the United Nations Office for Partnerships and the Fashion Impact Fund will welcome advisory committee members and registered partnerships by industry stakeholders, industry leaders, media and United Nations representatives to highlight actions, solutions, and progress from the fashion and lifestyle sectors to advance sector engagement in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

This side event aims to shed light on the interconnected nature of the growing challenges to media freedom and their impact on peace and security. 

In this multi-stakeholder panel, media professionals from Asia-Pacific, Latin America, North America and Europe will share their experiences in creating an enabling environment and conditions for the development of indigenous community media. The panel will provide recommendations to the UNPFII on next steps for action to enable transformative change.

This panel discussion is organized as a side event of the 67th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) by the Civil Society Unit, Department of Global Communications in collaboration with the International Association of Women in Radio and Television, (IAWRT).
